August Newsletter 2013
It’s hard to believe we are on the backside of the year, and school will be starting this week for some of us.  I will miss those evenings of coming home from work, and being able to just enjoy the evenings. On the flip side, I am excited for the challenges and changes my daughter will face entering 7th grade, as I watch her grow and evolve.

 

Which brings me to my next thought: As a chamber we are constantly evolving to stay current and on top of the needs and wants of our members.

 

One aspect the Chamber has strived to improve on this year is communication between us and our members.

 

By sending the Friday Blasts, the monthly newsletter, email blasts, our website and our Faceboook page, all of our members are being kept up to speed on the happenings with our members and events being held around our great city.

 

I encourage each of you to exhasut all of the tools and opportunities that your Bonne Terre Chamber has to offer.

July Investor Meeting
We hosted the speakers of Big River Chautaqua on Wednesday evening, July 17th at Heritage Hall.
Bow Tie Catering served a delicious meal, and each one of the featured speakers gave us a brief preview of what we were going to hear over the next 3 days.
The gentleman who portrayed President Harry Truman, left you hanging onto each sentence, and rght before he would give the full story away, he would grin and say, “i’ll tell you the rest on Saturday night.”
The Chamber served, before Friday night’s speaker, George Washigton Carver. I want to thank David & Nancy Dill, Dana Plunkett, Bruce Pratte, Kattrina Pratte and Marcella Warren for stepping up and helping that evening.  We couldn’t have done it without you!

August Investor Meeting
Will be held on Wednesday, August 28th at Mario’s at 12:00. Our guest speaker will be Curt Jones from Uni Tec Career Center. Are you aware of all the classes Uni Tec has to offer? Are you aware of how Uni Tec can help your business and your employees?  We invite you to come hear Mr. Jones speak about these things.
Our business spotlight will be The United Way of St. Francois County. Donna Hickman will have lots to share with us regarding what’s new and upcoming at the United Way.
The meal will be $10.00 per person.
Don’t forget to RSVP to the chamber.

Bonne Terre Aire Festival
Saturday, Sept. 7th from 10:00 am-10:00 pm
Airplane rides, helicopter rides, arts & crafts, food vendors, model airplanes, live music, a balloon glow at sunset, and much, much more!
The goal is to provide a fun and unique event for our community.
Would you like to be a part of this? They are looking for sponsors, volunteers, vendors, etc.

We want to thank everyone who made the backpack program such a success! A BIG THANK YOU to the Eastern Reception Diagnostic Correctional Center for your donation of $1,000!!  This money was raised by the inmates, who also made donation of notebooks in the shapes of apples and yellow ducks to go into the backpacks.
Another BIG THANK YOU goes to Stan Payne, and his church, East Bonne Terre Second Baptist Church who brought in backpacks full of nutritious food for this worthy program. Along with those filled backpacks we were also gie a check for $247.00 that was raised from their Vacation Bible School!  Children helping Children. What a blessing!
THANK YOU to Belgrade State Bank, First State Community Bank, Bonne Terre Airport, Mario’s, and Bonne Terre City Hall, for being drop off points, and for the fundraising and donations. And a BIG THANK YOU to Bonne Terre Save A Lot, for ordering and delivering the pallet to North County for us.
THANK YOU to Centenary United Methodist Church who donated all their backpacks that was left over from their community event they held on Satuday.
All total we raised $1,407.00 along with 4 totes and a box full of food. Everyting was delivered to the Superintendant’s office last week, and dispersed out to all the schools in the North County School District.
I am so proud of our members and how they stepped up for this very worthy cause.
Thank you again. Because of you, children won’t go to bed hungry.

Parkland Health Center Announces Star Service Team Member for July 
 
Parkland Health Service is pleased to announce that Amy Easter, RN has been selected as the Star Service Team Member for July 2013.
Amy is a registered nurse in the surgical services department. She has worked at Parkland Health Center for 11 years. Prior to working as a surgical nurse, she was a nurse in the obstetrics department. When asked what she likes about her job, she replied, “I like taking care of people and meeting new people.”
Amy’s nomination from her peers reads, in part: “Our July Star Service employee is an asset for PHC (Parkland Health Center). She goes above and beyond! She greets everyone she comes in contact with. She has a wonderful smile and goes the extra mile for her patients and families. She is willing to step up to the plate when needed. She helps out whenever she is needed. She gives her patients that little extra special touch. She takes on extra duties in the department to assure the best outcome for our department. She is team leader. She PHC with the highest regard. She lives COIL (Compassion, Integrity, and Loyalty) every day.” When she asked how she reacted to receiving this award, she responded, “I was surprised!” She went on to humbly explain that she feels it is her job to go the extra mile for the patient, so she does not think of that kind of attitude as being unusual.

Come “Wine” with us 
On Tuesday, August 6th the Bonne Terre Airport hosted a networking event for all the Bonne Terre Chamber Members. They were proud to show everyone in attendance the hard work and effort that has gone into the airport so far.
They are always looking for volunteers, that would like to come in and lend a hand with numerous projects they have going on.
