The Space Museum in Bonne Terre, Missouri is one of the most unique museums of its kind in the mid west regions. The museum is located in the quaint city of Bonne Terre, about 60 miles south  of St Louis.Situated along East School Street, the Space Museum lies in the heart of downtown Bonne Terre.  Visitors to the museum will be within walking distance from the city’s restaurants, shops, and other attractions on Benham Street and Main Street.For example, the Bonne Terre Mine Tours office is located right across the Space Museum. The tours offer unforgettable adventures deep in the underground historic mines of the area. In fact, there is even diving available in the mine caves, a truly unique activity that is hard to find anywhere else in the country.The Space Museum offers various changing exhibitions related to the history, present, and future of space exploration. Most of the exhibitions consist of artifacts, photographs, paper documents, as well as digital presentations such as movies and videos. The fledgling museum  recently opened its doors, and it is always looking for new donations, contributions, and any other assistance that will help it grow.Among its collection, one of the most impressive items in the museum is a flag that was brought from a Moon exploration mission, Apollo 17. This allows visitors to truly get a feeling for the outer space by viewing real items that have actually been there.In addition to fascinating visitors, the Space Museum in Bonne Terre has strong ties with the local  community to foster education and research in schools and colleges. For example, the museum sometimes sponsors free film presentations shown at local colleges such as Mineral Area College.The Bonne Terre Space Museum is open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays between the morning and late afternoon hours. The admission for adults is only 5 dollars, and children get discounted rates of 3 dollars. Visitors will also have the option of listening to free audio tours after paying for admission.  A visit to the Space Museum, especially for children, could inspire the next generation of astronauts. The family friendly surroundings in downtown Bonne Terre make it an excellent venue to visit for everyone.
The Space Museum is pleased to present, perhaps, the largest privately held collection of space memorabilia and artifacts in the state of Missouri.The historical significance and quality of these artifacts rival those found in major space centers.  Presentation is professionally executed and second to none.Without question, visitors agree that the Museum experience propels them to another time and place.  A place of wonder and excitement!Unique to the artifacts in the Museum collection is the large number of items previously owned by the astronauts.  As their significance is considered, the visitor cannot deny that a connection to these brave men and women is felt.  It allows you to get, “behind their eyes”.   You will begin to understand why they are special and took the risks required to probe the new frontier.The Space Museum is as much about an idea as it is about entertainment and preserving these important relics.  It endeavors to infect the visitor with a sense of how important and dramatic space exploration is.  Based on post visit interviews, we are accomplishing this.   We are encouraging the start of a new journey, a journey into a promising future as a spacefaring people.Come.  “Join the journey!” About the Museum:The Space Museum in Bonne Terre, Missouri is currently applying for a 501-C3.
